L.A. EATS: S&W COUNTRY DINER Monday, May 28, 2007 |
EATERY: S&W Country Diner
WHERE: 9748 Washington Blvd., Culver City
I love breakfast. I mean, LOVE breakfast. Eggs, bacon and toast are a must. In any form and in and combination of those items. Toast omelette you say? I'll take two.
Los Angeles has the bottom feeders of breakfast joints like Denny's and the slightly better Norms, but I always hunt for better. Our standby is Jinky's in Santa Monica.
I read about S&W on la.foodblogging, and we gave it a shot.
We've since been back several times and it has never failed us. The menu is a little complicated to figure out at first, but once you've unlocked the secrets, you'll join the secret society of delicious breakfast meals. For less than $10 a person, you get a massive omlette with three toppings and two giant pancakes. Recently, I chose the French Toast over the pancakes because the pancakes proved to be too much food.
Parking can be kind of a hassle, but there's a parking garage just a block east (free under an hour, I think). It's cash only, and if you forget, there's a WaMu across the street. Get there early because you'll have to wait at least 30 minutes on weekends.
RATING (OUT OF 5): * * * * *
