MOVE-N-ZOO
Last weekend, Connie and I moved.
We've been casually apartment hunting for a little while. We had finally outgrown the one bedroom and needed to stretch. And, as have been our previous two apartments in Los Angeles, finding the latest was a fluke. We found a great two bedroom literally 450 feet from the front door of our one bedroom. Thursday we looked, Friday we signed the papers, Saturday we packed, Sunday we moved. So I'm sad to say, my ballads of Silver Reign and Roadface and the heel-walking guy above us, are gone.
And this weekend, we neither had the chance to unpack, nor to see any of the new neighbors. We were in San Diego. For Christmas, Connie signed us up for memberships to the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park.

The Wild Animal Park is one of the most amazing places I've ever seen. Connie had signed us up for the Cheetah Run Safari. I've been fascinated* by cheetahs for awhile and this exhibit was an amazing experience.
The zoo takes you on a "safari" and the highlight is having one of the three trained cheetahs race by you. The cheetah we saw was named Majani, who is the largest cheetah in captivity at around 145lbs. The photo below was the best I could do.

The 90 minute excursion showcases a few other animals, as well as brings you up close with the cheetah. The trainers discuss the challenges facing the animals today, both in the wild and in captivity and how there's a great possibility by 2010, the cheetah population could be lost forever. If you have the chance, seeing a cheetah race by you at over 50mph is worth the time and money. Especially when the money is going towards preserving a quickly vanishing animal.
The rest of our zoo adventure is here in photos. In comparison to the Los Angeles Zoo, the San Diego Zoo is amazing. When I'm mayor of Los Angeles, I've sworn to use the left over rubble from the demolished Dodger Stadium to create a great and beautiful park for animals to live.
[UPDATE: 1:16pm] Now with exciting video!
* When I say fascinated, this does not mean I want Cheetah related items for birthdays and gift giving holidays.
